Africa Infrastructure Fellowship Program

Launched during the Davos forum in 2018, the Africa Infrastructure Fellowship Program is a capacity-building initiative driven by the Global Infrastructure Hub, Meridiam, and the World Economic Forum, designed to support African governments in developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects.

It is the first true infrastructure public-private partnership (PPP) program dedicated to the training of senior civil servants involved in the procurement of large and complex infrastructure projects in Africa, and which engaged governments, leading academic institutions and the private sector players.

A Unique Approach

The AIFP aims to promote a paradigm shift in the implementation of public infrastructure projects in Africa.

its actions are developed through capacity-building partnerships and through the exchange of best practices, essential for understanding complex models in infrastructure.

The program will:

– Provide participants with a mix of theoretical and practical training delivered by PPP professionals and experts,

– Enable a direct experience of private sector approaches and processes through internships,

– Lead to the establishment of a strong network of infrastructure practitioners.

Components of the AIFP

Intensive academic workshops, private sector and development bank secondments, and APMG PPP Certification

Expert Training

With an emphasis on case study analysis and practical learning in French and English, high-profile experts provide participants with up-to-date tools in major topics relating to infrastructure, e.g. procurement, financing, sustainable development and inclusivity outcomes from infrastructure.

APMG PPP Certification

The program provides the opportunity to become an APMG Certified PPP Professional (CP3P). It is an innovation of a consortium of MDBs and part funded by the Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) with a shared vision of enhancing PPP performance globally.

Secondment and practical work experience

Participants gain at least three weeks of experience in a development bank, or a private organization (technical, legal or financial counsel, operator, industrialist, developer)

Network of practitioners

The program is a unique opportunity for fellows to spend time with their peers again and debrief with the AIFP team on the successes and challenges of the program. A network event takes place following the completion of the program.
